HOMOPHONES

Homophones are words that sound the same, but have different spellings and meanings.

For those who have tried taken the TOEIC test, homophones are often used to confuse you. They are most commonly found in Part 1 and 2.

Let’s take a look at the following homophones:

allowed – permitted

aloud – audibly

bare – not clothed or covered

bear – to carry

brake – a device for slowing or stopping a moving vehicle

break – to separate into pieces

These are just a few examples of homophones but there are a lot of them in the English language!
