Prefixes for negative adjectives

1. un + adjective

Examples: unkind, unable, unwise, unhealthy, unclean, unfaithful

2. in + adjective

Examples: incapable, insane, indecent, indefinite, inactive

but “in changes when it comes before “p”, “m”, “l”, and “r”:

3. im + adjective

Examples: impatient, impolite, immortal, immoral, impossible, immobile

4. il + adjective

Examples: illegal, illogical, illegible

5. ir + adjective

Examples: irregular, irrelevant, irreversible
