Some vs. Any

a. For a question, we use “any”.

b. For a positive answer, we use “some”.

c. For a negative answer, we use “any”.

Examples:

1. Do you have any friends?

• Yes, I have some friends.
• No, I don’t have any friends.

2. Do you play any sports?

• Yes, I play some sports.
• No, I don’t play any sports.

3. Are there any books on the table?

• Yes, there are some books on the table.
• No, there aren’t any books on the table.
