‘HAVE TO‘ vs ‘MUST‘
– we use have to / must + infinitive to talk about obligation, things that are necessary to do, or to give advice about things that are a good idea to do.
HAVE TO
- use to say that something is obligatory. The subject of have to is obliged or forced to act by a separate, external power (for example, the Law or school rules).
Example Sentences:
- You have to speak fluent English if you want to work in the USA.
- Schoolchildren have to wear a uniform.
- In Japan, you have to drive on the left side of the road.
MUST
- use to say that something is essential or necessary.It expresses personal obligation or what the speaker thinks is necessary.MUST is subjective.
Example Sentences:
- He must work harder.
- You must remember to feed the dog.
- You must remember to buy present for Alex.
